"'Have You Seen Our Gospel Choir?' Worship, Music and the Integration of Races in Multiracial Churches" will be the topic of a lecture presented by Dr. Gerardo Marti, L. Richardson King Associate Professor of Sociology at Davidson College in Charlotte, N.C., at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, in Bennett Auditorium on the Baylor University campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Presented by the Baylor department of sociology, Marti will discuss how race connects with worship music, whether or not music is the secret to multiracial churches' success, and how the question "Have you seen our gospel choir?" becomes a point of pride, or an indication that a church is firmly committed to the principle of diversity.

Marti received his bachelor degree in sociology from Pepperdine University in 1987, his master's degree from the University of Southern California in 1990 and his doctoral degree from USC in 2003. He is the author of "A Mosaic of Believers" (2003), "Hollywood Faith" (2008) and "Worship Across the Racial Divide" (2012).
Bennett Auditorium is in the 700 block of Speight Avenue on the Baylor campus.
