Baylor's Martin Museum of Art "Advances Tradition" of Printmaking

The Martin Museum of Art at Baylor University will host a printmaking exhibition called "Advancing Tradition: Twenty Years of Printmaking at Flatbed Press," from Jan. 21 through March 9. The exhibit will highlight the effect of digital technology and new innovations on traditional printmaking.
The exhibit is designed to focus on three aspects of the printmaking process, including the specialty of printmaking, the merge of new technologies with traditional tools and techniques and the role of collaboration between artists and master printers.
Featured exhibit artists are Sterling Allen, Terry Allen, Keith Carter, Kelly Fearing, Melissa Miller, Lamar Peterson, Robert Rauschenberg and Julie Speed, and all art on display was created in the publishing workshop of Flatbed Press in Austin.
"Advancing Tradition" will host an opening reception and two gallery talks during the exhibition. The opening reception is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, at the Martin Museum of Art in the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center, 60 Baylor Ave, and will include a gallery talk by Mark L. Smith, co-director of Flatbed Press, at 6:30 p.m.
Katherine Brimberry, co-director of Flatbed Press, also will present two gallery talks from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. and 2:30 to 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, in the Martin Museum of Art.
The exhibition, reception and gallery talks are free and open to the public.
The Martin Museum of Art is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays through Fridays and from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.
