Texas Independent Film Network to Begin Semester with Film about Soldiers

The Baylor film and digital media division of the department of communication studies will show its first Texas Independent Film Network movie screening of the spring semester at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, in Room 101 of Castellaw Communications Center, 219 Baylor Ave.

The department will screen "Where Soldiers Come From," a documentary film that follows the four-year journey of childhood friends turned United States soldiers in Afghanistan. The documentary was directed by Heather Courtney, who followed the men from Northern Michigan to Afghanistan to capture their emotional and personal experiences.

"Where Soldiers Come From" has won the South by Southwest (SXSW) 2011 Film Award and also has been nominated for a 2012 Independent Spirit Award. It has received positive reviews from multiple movie reviewers writing for The New York Times, The Washington Post and Time.
