Baylor Law Professors to Auction Themselves for Charity Dec. 2

Phi Alpha Delta Baylor Law Chapter to hold annual Professor Auction to benefit CASA
In conjunction with Baylor Law School faculty, the Baylor Law Chapter of Phi Alpha Delta International will hold its second annual Professor Auction benefiting Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, in the Student Lounge at the Sheila and Walter Umphrey Law Center, 1114 South University Parks Dr.
Co-sponsors of the event are Themis, Barbri, Westlaw, LexisNexis and Kaplan.
Phi Alpha Delta will auction 25 "date-night"-styled packages. Law professors have donated diverse events, ranging from dinner at a professor's house to Taekwondo lessons, as well as other packages that include:
- lunch with Baylor President Ken Starr
skeet shooting with Professor Davis Guinn
watching a Baylor women's basketball practice, touring the locker room and meeting the coaches and players with Professor Mike Rogers
a tour of the Blue Bell ice cream plant in Brenham with Berkley Scroggins
Last year's inaugural auction raised more than $2,800 for CASA.
"We are very pleased with the faculty's willingness to work with Phi Alpha Delta to benefit CASA," said Cameron Redding, Phi Alpha Delta's president. "We believe strongly in CASA's mission, and our members have worked with faculty to provide opportunities to socialize with students outside the classroom."
CASA volunteers, who are appointed by judges, watch over and advocate for abused and neglected children to ensure they receive attention in the legal and social service system and do not languish in inappropriate group or foster homes. Volunteers stay with each case until it is closed and the child is placed in a safe, permanent home. For many abused children, their CASA volunteer is the one constant adult presence in their lives.
