The Baylor University School of Music will present the 1996 Northcutt Lecture at 4:10 p.m. Thursday, April 11, in Meadows Recital Hall. This year's lecture-the 11th in the series - will be given by Dr. Terry W. York, associate pastor of Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas. His topic will be "Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs: An Approach to the Doctrine of the Trinity."
York, a native of Atchinson, Kan., holds a bachelor's degree in music from California Baptist in Riverside and a master's degree and doctorate from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Before joining the staff at Park Cities, he served with the music department of the Baptist Sunday School Board in Nashville, Tenn., and was project coordinator for the best-selling 1991 Baptist Hymnal.
In addition to serving as minister of music and youth for churches in California, Mississippi, Arizona, and Louisiana, York authored Great Hymns of Missions and The Choir Member's Ministry and co-authored Three Voices: Poetry in Worship, published by Convention Press. He is also a highly respected contributor of articles and reviews for music publications and the author of several published hymn and anthem texts.
Since its inception in 1985, the Northcutt Lecture Series, has become an integral part of the academic and spiritual life of the Baylor School of Music. The series is designed to bring nationally and internationally known scholars in church music to Baylor. Now in its 11th year, the Northcutt Lecture Series is made possible through an endowment given by LeGrande and Cassandra Northcutt of Longview. Both are Baylor graduates and valued friends of the School of Music.
The Northcutt Lecture is free and open to the public. For more information, call the Baylor School of Music at 755-3991.
