Nicholls to Give Harp Recital March 7

Alison Nicholls, a 25-year-old harpist from Cambridge, England, will present a guest recital in Baylor University's Armstrong Browning Library at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 7. The performance-sponsored by the Center for International Education-will be held in the library's McLean Foyer of Meditation.
Nicholls was born in Glasgow, Scotland, but has lived in Cambridge since the age of three. She has studied with two of the world's finest harp instructors, Susan Drake in England and Nancy Allen in the United States. In 1992 she became the first harpist ever to win an Aspen Music Festival scholarship. Then, two years ago, she was the unanimous winner of the prestigious Nicanor Zabaleta Prize at the World Harp Festival in Cardiff, Wales.
She was a semi-finalist at last year's USA International Harp Competition and has been invited to present the Laureate Recital at the 1996 World Harp Congress in Seattle.
Her March 7 program at Baylor University will include Marcel Grandjany's "Fantaisie," Maurice Ravel's "Minuet," the Harp Sonata of Paul Hindemith, Gabriel Fauré's "Impromptu," and Jean-Michel Damase's "Sicilienne Variée." Also featured will be music by John Parry, Marcel Tournier, William Mathias, and Alphonse Hasselmans.
