Texas Rural Schools to Hold Conference Feb. 16-18

WACO, Texas - School finance will be the focus of the fourth annual Texas Association of Rural Schools conference to be hosted by Baylor University's School of Education Feb. 16-18.
The keynote speaker for the opening dinner and general session scheduled from 7-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, in the Bear Foundation Room at Floyd Casey Stadium will be Grant Teaff, executive director of the American Football Coaches Association.
Teaff is the successful author of four books including his most recent Coaching in the Classroom which examines how techniques used by coaches to teach and motivate student athletes can be implemented effectively by classroom teachers in academic settings. Other books authored by Teaff include I Believe, Winning, and Seasons of Glory.
The conference will continue at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, in the Barfield Drawing Room of the Bill Daniel Student Center with state Sen. David Sibley, who will give a future perspective of education as it relates to small schools.
Dr. Van Houser, noted author of a 14 brochure prevention series titled 12 Steps to Prevention, will be the guest speaker from noon-1:25 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, in the Barfield Drawing Room. Houser will discuss "Whatever Happened to Community?"
The closing session from noon-1:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, in the Barfield Drawing Room will feature Kathy Grant of the law firm Bickerstaff, Heath, Smiley, Pollan, Kever & McDaniel in Austin. Grant has a specialty practice in telecommunications and has been active in the development and promotion of the Telecommunications Infrastructure Fund on behalf of Texas Rural Communities.
