Baylor University’s Department of Public Safety and Center for Global Engagement continue to monitor the latest information on coronavirus (COVID-19) from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Department of State. FEB. 26, 2020 UPDATE: Baylor University Postpones University-sponsored Travel to South Korea
WACO, Texas (Feb. 26, 2020) - On Feb. 24, 2020, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued Level 3 Warning, Avoid Nonessential Travel, regarding travel to South Korea, due to an ongoing outbreak of a respiratory illness caused by the COVID-19 virus that can be spread from person to person.
In accordance with global safety and security best practices and United States Department of State and CDC guidance, Baylor University-sponsored travel to South Korea is temporarily postponed until further notice.
Travel restrictions for Baylor University travel to China continue at this time. All other international travel continues to run as scheduled. Baylor University will continue to monitor the situation globally and domestically.
In addition, all Baylor University-sponsored travel for faculty, staff and students needs to be registered with the Center for Global Engagement. More information about travel registration is available on the Center for Global Engagement’s website.
Baylor University and the Center for Global Engagement in collaboration with the Baylor Department of Public Safety and U.S. Department of State will continue to give updates as necessary.
JAN. 27, 2020 UPDATE: Results Negative for Baylor Student Tested for Coronavirus
WACO, Texas (Jan. 27, 2020) - Baylor University is pleased to share that the Waco-McLennan County Public Health District (WMCPHD) announced today (Jan. 27, 2020) that test results were negative for Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) for the Baylor student whose samples were sent to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) last week.
University officials stress that there are no other suspected cases of Novel Coronavirus within the Baylor community at this time. Baylor will continue to work closely with University Health Services, the WMCPHD and state and federal health officials and keep students, faculty and staff apprised in the event the situation changes.
On Friday, Jan. 24, the WMCPHD reported that the student, who had recently traveled to China, had met CDC criteria for further testing and evaluation after being treated at an area hospital and followed CDC protocols until testing was completed.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is closely monitoring this emerging, rapidly evolving situation and will provide updated information as it becomes available on the CDC website at www.cdc.gov/coronavirus.
