James Roberts, Ph.D.

Dr. James Roberts is a leading researcher on consumer behavior, compulsive buying and credit card abuse and professor of marketing in the Hankamer School of Business at Baylor University in Waco, Texas.

His book "Shiny Objects: Why We Spend Money We Don't Have in Search of Happiness We Can't Buy," was published in 2011 by HarperCollins.

Dr. Roberts has written more than 50 journal articles and conference papers and is often quoted in the news media regarding consumer spending, including NPR, The New York Times, USA Today, Cosmopolitan Magazine, the Wall Street Journal, CNN, Newsday and the Chicago Tribune and CBS Early Show, among many others.

Dr. Roberts, the Ben H. Williams Professor of Marketing at Baylor's Hankamer School of Business, received his bachelor's degree from the University of St. Thomas in Saint Paul, Minn., his master's degree in business administration from St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minn., and his doctoral degree from the University of Nebraska.
