I-35 Construction

In May 2019, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) began a major four-year reconstruction project on a 6-mile stretch of Interstate 35 from North Loop 340 to 12th Street. The project is expected to be completed in early 2023.

During construction, be patient, alert and resilient, plan for additional travel time to campus and Know Before You Go.

If you are walking or biking to and from Baylor and the downtown side of I-35, use the crosswalks under 4th/5th Streets or University Parks Drive. Please be aware that this access is in an active construction zone, so BE SAFE BE SEEN when walking or biking through that area. *Do not attempt to cross the interstate on foot.*

WACO, Texas (Aug. 24, 2022) - Overnight I-35 construction work to continue installing signage along the north and southbound I-35 mainlanes will mean some partial mainlane and exit/entrance closures on I-35 along the Baylor campus.

UPDATE: THIS WEEK: TxDOT to Close SB I-35 Mainlane for Overnight Work
WACO, Texas (July 11, 2022) – UPDATE: TxDOT will not be closing the exit ramps or MLK this week nor working on the northbound lanes. Crews plan to close only one southbound lane nightly this week from Forrest Street to University Parks Drive from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, July 11-Wednesday, July 13.

TxDOT to Shift NB Mainlane Traffic from 17th to Forrest Street to Newly Reconstructed Lanes
WACO, Texas (May 31, 2022) - The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will begin shifting traffic this week on northbound I-35, while the City of Waco begins a construction project on the S. 17th Street bridge, which will be closed from Webster to Franklin avenues through next spring.

Overnight Closure This Week of North Exit 334B by Campus
WACO, Texas (March 14, 2022) - Overnight this week, TxDOT crews plan to close the northbound I-35 exit ramp (Exit 334B), which provides access to 8th-4th/5th Streets-Downtown-University Parks Drive-MLK Blvd by the Baylor Waco campus, to continue paving the northbound I-35 mainlanes.

TxDOT to Begin Implementing Final I-35 Traffic Shifts Feb. 28-March 4
WACO, Texas (Feb. 21, 2022) – The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has rescheduled the northbound I-35 mainlane traffic shift from US 84/Waco Drive to N Loop 340 due to expected weather events this week. These are among the final traffic shifts for the I-35 project through Waco, which is anticipated being completed by early 2023.
