Tour Guides at the Mayborn lead small groups of adults who have scheduled guided tours throughout the museum and the outdoor Historic Village. In this role, volunteers provide additional information and expertise to enhance the experience of the visitors.
Volunteers who serve in this role are stationed throughout the museum to assist groups by answering questions, giving directions, and providing help as needed. Volunteers will also work closely with Education Facilitators to help guests explore artifacts and/or facilitate activities in exhibit areas. Interacting with guests in this way offers our visitors additional ways to "engage, explore, and enjoy" the Mayborn.
Gallery Guides are called upon to assist our visitors in our traveling exhibits. After completing training specific to the exhibit, Gallery Guides will be available to greet visitors to the exhibit, as well as answer questions related to the exhibit. Traveling exhibits are open during certain times throughout the year, and Gallery Guides sign up to cover shifts in the exhibit.
Special Activity days at the Mayborn are fun-filled occasions with activities for the entire family. Volunteers may be called on to do all sorts of fun things from greeting and giving directions to dressing in costume and talking about life in Texas during the late 1800s. These events are very popular with our visitors and our volunteers!
Our volunteers often serve our guests by welcoming them to the Mayborn and guiding them to the areas of the museum that might interest them most.
