"I had the preconceived notion that since I was a walk on, I'd get treated differently, or no one would really talk to me, hang out with me. But no, here at Baylor, if you're on the team then you're on the team, no matter where you came from. Whether you walk on or earn a scholarship, the team and the coaches as a whole really make everyone feel included and they hold the same standard for everyone.

"Frisman Jackson -- he’s my position coach, so I see him the most -- but also even outside of that, he really does care about who we are as men. And so he's always encouraging us to be the best that we can be, and he's always working his hardest to make sure that we succeed. I'm really thankful for that.

"I'm a grad student now. I'm doing research with my professor, Dr. Scott Koziol, and we're doing some Navy-funded research projects. One of our projects is for autonomous underwater vehicles; since they're underwater, they can't really use GPS to know where they are. So we're trying to use multiple underwater vehicles so they can check each other so they know where they are. And then the other project is called neuromorphic engineering. It's trying to build an artificial neural network, like how our brain operates, with just circuits and stuff. It's almost like a deep-learning kind of AI kind of circuit, but it's for a physical circuit as opposed to like algorithms and code and stuff.

"For football and engineering or just academics in general, you get out what you put in, right? So athletically, however hard you work, obviously that shows up in how you play or how much you lift during workouts. And then academically, that shows up in your grades. So definitely I would say give 100% in everything that you do, whether that's academics or athletics. Because you think, 'College, obviously it's the best four years of life.' But it's really dependent on what you put into college is how much you get back."
