Nov. 7, 2013

By Andrea Smith, student assistant for Baylor Libraries Marketing and Communications

Melvin Schuetz, Assistant to the Curators at Armstrong Browning Library, donated a rare painting by Chesley Bonestell to the Smithsonian Institution. The painting titled "A Fog-Filled Canal on Mars" dates back to 1954 and illustrates the mistaken theory of astronomer Percival Lowell, who believed the surface of the red planet was crisscrossed by ancient canals. The watercolor and gouache painting will be on display in the Air and Space Museum until Jan. 1, 2014.
