Self-Directed Learning
Self-directed learning, sometimes referred to as self-paced, is a process in which an individual learner takes the initiative, with or without the assistance of others, in identifying their learning needs, formulating goals, identifying learning resources, selecting and implementing appropriate learning strategies, and evaluating learning outcomes.
Recommendation
Situating learning in the hands of our students is important. Have them work on their own not only prior to class but also after. Use self-directed learning in partnership with group-based learning.
