Project Bookworm is a new initiative launched as part of an existing mentoring program facilitated by Baylor University and Communities In Schools of the Heart of Texas. Project Bookworm is a program that provides culturally relevant books to children served by the Baylor Buddies mentoring program to promote literacy, diverse role models, and engaging stories to inner city youth.
Increase awareness of portrayals of privilege and majority culture represented in children’s books and the disconnect with minority children’s lives
Increase awareness of access to books in general and promotion of reading as fun and engaging for children
Showcase a feasible program enhancement that can be added to existing mentoring or literacy programs
