Project Bookworm

Project Bookworm is a new initiative launched as part of an existing mentoring program facilitated by Baylor University and Communities In Schools of the Heart of Texas. Project Bookworm is a program that provides culturally relevant books to children served by the Baylor Buddies mentoring program to promote literacy, diverse role models, and engaging stories to inner city youth.

Intended Outcomes
  • Increase awareness of portrayals of privilege and majority culture represented in children’s books and the disconnect with minority children’s lives

  • Increase awareness of access to books in general and promotion of reading as fun and engaging for children

  • Showcase a feasible program enhancement that can be added to existing mentoring or literacy programs
