How to Volunteer: To sign up email Neal Parekh, at neal_parekh@baylor.edu.

Description for Witness Volunteers:

What: Witness volunteers will serve as “fact” or “expert” witnesses. “Fact” witnesses will be given a role as a character from the Titanic, either passenger or crew, and testify about their story. “Expert” witnesses will give opinions on exactly what happened that day and why.

When: The trial will be June 25th – June 29th, beginning at 1:30 PM each afternoon and concluding at approximately 5:30 PM. Witness volunteers will only be required to attend trial on the afternoon of their testimony, not for all five days.

Where: Mayborn Museum theater

Requirements: Witnesses need not know anything about the Titanic sinking in advance. All needed information will be provided. You will not be required to memorize anything, because trial is not scripted in advance. The law students will communicate with volunteers in advance of the trial by email to provide all information necessary to play the roles. “Fact” witnesses can be anyone. Though not required, volunteers who desire to be “expert” witnesses should be willing to learn about a particular topic, such as navigation through ice fields, shipbuilding, or economic issues, like valuation of earning capacity. Baylor Law students will teach volunteers all they need to know.

How to Volunteer: To sign up email Neal Parekh, at neal_parekh@baylor.edu. You may indicate which type of role you would like to sign up for (expert or fact witness). As in a real trial, the full list of witnesses will be released closer to trial, and witness roles will be assigned in June.
