Getting to Know Javier Cabanillas
Baylor was first introduced to me as the "boot camp" of law schools. This is the school where lawyer elites graduate. I did not choose Baylor because I thought it would be easy, I chose it because I know it is worth it!
Oddly enough, my favorite thing about Baylor is that every day is a true challenge. Baylor has not been a walk in the park. It has been a journey through a dense, dark, and burdening forest. But this is exactly why I enrolled. My workload and my courses are difficult for a reason. I am being prepared for the worst that a legal career can throw at me by professors who are unmatched in qualifications. Additionally, this journey is not one that I take alone. My classmates have been beside me the entire time, and will continue to be my support even after we graduate.
My plan is to utilize my career in a way that best serves my community. Success through service has been my mantra ever since I entered the workforce as a restaurant waiter. This mentality has proved successful both in corporate management and government employment. My law degree will benefit not only my family and myself as an attorney but also my community, as I will become one more resource standing on behalf of those most in need. Baylor Law has already given me the opportunity to serve the Waco community in the Veterans’ Clinic, the Annual Baylor Adoption Day, the Baylor Pro Bono Transactional Team, and in a summer-long externship with the legal services department of Mission Waco, a non-profit organization.
