Director of Development

Baylor Law is seeking a Director of Development. The Director is an employee in Baylor University Advancement, but is officed in the Law Center and works closely with Dean Brad Toben and the Baylor Law team. The Director has the responsibility and privilege of raising funds and nurturing philanthropic support for Baylor Law.

There are several qualification factors. The Director must possess strong relational skills and be a self-motivated, results-driven thinker. The position blends interpersonal skills, relationships, and friendships with processes and metrics, with the goal of guiding Baylor Law alumni and friends forward in their giving and resource support of Baylor Law. A Baylor Lawyer who is already knowledgeable with the program, culture, and mission of Baylor Law is preferred.

The Director works with alumni and friends throughout the state and beyond. Meaningful day travel and some occasional overnight travel is required. The Director must be able to work effectively, in tandem with Dean Toben and independently. In addition to soliciting major gift commitments, the Director works with University Advancement and the Baylor Law team on annual fund gifts, deferred/estate gifts, annual endowment reports, donor recognition and stewardship, and other duties as assigned

Marilea Lewis, JD '78, has joined Duffee + Eitzen, LLP as partner. She has been selected for the seventh year among the Top 100 attorneys in Texas by Texas Super Lawyers and named to D Magazine's Best Lawyers list.
Katie P. Klein, JD '78, with Dale & Klein in McAllen, Texas, has been honored as a Texas Super Lawyer for the past nine years. She has also been named as "10 Best in Texas" in the area of Client Satisfaction by the American Institute of Family Law Attorneys for four consecutive years.
Herb Bristow, JD '81, and Craig Cherry, JD '99, shareholders with the Haley & Olson firm in Waco, are joining forces with Andy Tindel, JD '82, and Mark Mann, JD '81, partners in the Mann, Tindel & Thompson Law Group in Tyler & Henderson, for an IP practice with a downtown Waco office. The joint venture will focus on patent infringement disputes.
J. Jeffrey Springer, JD '85, with Springer-Lyle in Denton, has been elected to membership in the Fellows of the Texas Bar Foundation. He has practiced law in Denton for more than thirty years.
Joe R. Anderson, JD '87, partner at Burns Anderson Jury & Brenner, LLP, in Austin, was named a fellow of the College of Workers' Compensation Lawyers. He is also a fellow of the Texas Bar College and Board Certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Worker's Compensation Law. In the past, he has served as president of the State Bar Section for Worker's Compensation and course director for the State Bar of Texas Advanced Workers' Compensation seminar. He is a 2018 recipient of TexasBarCLE's Standing Ovation Award. He continues to thank his "lucky stars" that he went to Baylor Law.
Calvin Cowan, JD '03, a partner at Sanderford & Carroll, P.C. in Temple, Texas, was one of seven attorneys that earned board certification in Construction Law in 2018 as determined by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
Hon. Jeanne Parker, JD '93, has served as County Court at Law No. 1 judge in Bell County since 2015. Since Bell County's founding in 1850, only four women have served on the bench.
Steven Einhorn, JD '07, has joined Brown Rudnick LLP's New York office as a partner in its Tax Practice Group.
Jorge Gutierrez, JD '07, was promoted to Partner at Norton Rose Fulbright US LLP. Jorge is board certified in Oil, Gas, and Mineral Law and works in the firm's Energy Transactions practice group in the Dallas office. His practice focuses on representing oil and gas companies in the upstream and midstream sectors.
Tad Allen, JD '08, is a shareholder in Harrell, Stoebner & Russell PC, a law firm with offices in Temple and Killeen. He focuses his practice on civil litigation, including personal injury.
Catherine "Cassie" Hoyer Bird, JD '10, has been nominated by President Donald J. Trump to be General Counsel at the Federal Labor Relations Authority for a term of five years. She currently serves as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Administration (ASA) at the Department of Health and Human Services overseeing divisions such as human resources, IT, real estate and logistics, acquisitions, and grants management. Previously, Catherine served as ASA's Associate Deputy General Counsel.
Hunter Lewis, JD '10, has joined Duffee + Eitzen, LLP as partner. He has been selected for six years as one of the youngest Texas Super Lawyers.
Ronnie Turner Jr., JD '10, of Texas-based Provost Umphrey Law Firm, has been named to the 2019 Texas Rising Stars list of top young attorneys, marking the fifth year he has earned this honor. He has also earned recognition in The Best Lawyers in America. Ronnie is Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
Jenifer Fallon Pfanzelt, JD '14, has joined the insurance defense practice of Taylor English Duma LLP in Atlanta, Georgia. She serves clients in a variety of areas including premises liability, trucking, professional and fiduciary liability, product liability, and mass tort. Additionally, she serves in pro bono activity with the Truancy Intervention Project and the Georgia Bar High School Mock Trial programs.
