Director of Alumni Relations

Baylor Law is seeking applicants who can advance the tradition of outstanding Baylor Law alumni experiences and serve as a vital connection between Baylor Law and over 7,400 Baylor Lawyers. The Director of Alumni Relations is responsible for creating a broad array of strategies for meaningful interaction with alumni; developing and executing alumni events and programs for the Baylor Law alumni community; working on alumni publications and other communication vehicles to keep Baylor Law alumni informed and engaged with Baylor Law; and serving as an ambassador for Baylor Law to alumni, Baylor University constituents, and to the public.

Baylor Law Mourns the Passing of Senator Murray Watson Jr.

Murray Watson Jr., JD '54, former state representative and senator, education champion, and noted philanthropist, passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2018. He was 86. Senator Watson graduated from Baylor University in 1952 with a BBA in accounting and economics, and from Baylor Law in 1954 with a juris doctor. . . Full Story

Congratulations to the Baylor Law graduates who officially became Baylor Lawyers during the 2018 Summer Commencement ceremony! President Linda Livingstone and Associate Dean Leah Teague presided over the ceremony. Justice Jan Patterson delivered the commencement address and Professors David Guinn and Greg White hooded the graduates. Caleb Gunnels gave the invocation and Joanna Raines addressed the class as the highest-ranking student.

Hon. David L. Evans, JD '78, of Fort Worth, was reappointed as presiding judge of the Eighth Administrative Judicial Region by Governor Greg Abbott. Judge Evans has served as the presiding judge of the Eighth Administrative Judicial Region since 2014, and is board certified in Civil Appellate Law and Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
Henry B. Gonzalez III, JD '92, was appointed as director of Jefferson Bank by the Jefferson Bank Board of Directors.
Kenneth Pybus, JD '92, an associate professor at Abilene Christian University, has been named chair of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication.
Lisa Havens, JD '93, senior vice president, legal counsel, and director of risk management with Baylor Scott & White, was honored with the 2018 Outstanding Corporate Counsel Award by the Dallas Women Lawyers Association.
Rear Adm. John G. Hannink, JD '94, was nominated by President Trump and confirmed by the U.S. Senate to be the next Judge Advocate General (JAG) of the Navy with the appointment to the grade of vice admiral. Since 2015, he has served with distinction as Deputy JAG and also Commander of the Naval Legal Service Command (NLSC). His prodigious skill, diverse experience, and steady temperament make him an ideal choice to serve as the senior military counsel to the Secretary of the Navy and Chief of Naval Operations, as well as the leader of the worldwide JAG community.
John R. Nelson, JD '96, has joined the Austin office of law firm Dickinson Wright PLLC as a member. A Member of the State Bar of Texas and a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, he has been recognized as a leader in his field by Texas Monthly's Super Lawyers publication.
Bane Phillippi, JD '98, was named vice president and general counsel of McCoy's Building Supply. In his new role, Phillippi will be responsible for all facets of McCoy's Legal and Risk Departments and will serve as a member of the executive team. McCoy's Building Supply is one of the nation's largest privately held pro-dealers and farm and ranch suppliers.
Elissa Larremore, JD '99, was elected to the position of general director on the Automotive Service Association (ASA) Board of Directors.
Kevin Schutte, JD '01, has joined the Dallas office of law firm Shapiro Bieging Barber Otteson LLP (SBBO) as a partner. Schutte's practice focuses on general commercial and business litigation at both the trial and appellate court levels, as well as arbitrations and other forms of alternative dispute resolution. He represents clients in disputes involving breach of contract, fraud, securities fraud, misappropriation of trade secrets, unfair competition, real estate, healthcare, trademark and copyright infringements, oil and gas/mineral rights, and product liability.
Tab R. Urbantke, JD '02, joined the Dallas office of law firm Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP as a partner. For over 15 years, Urbantke has represented and counseled some of the largest energy companies in Texas and the United States.
Lauren Renee Sepulveda, JD '11, Assistant Criminal District Attorney of the Hidalgo County District Attorney's Office, was awarded the TYLA President's Award of Merit and elected President-Elect of the Hidalgo County Young Lawyers Association.
Taylor Mohr, JD '12, has focused her practice on family law and has joined the Frisco office of Orsinger, Nelson, Downing & Anderson. Recognized in Super Lawyers magazine as a Texas Rising Star for the past two years, Mohr also has earned selection to the National Academy of Family Law Attorneys' Top 10 Under 40 in the Texas listing and the American Institute of Family Law Attorneys' Top 10 Best Female Attorneys.
Rekha “Akella” Roarty, JD '14, was awarded the Pedro “Pete” Serrano Leadership Award at the 2018 State Bar of Texas Annual Meeting in Houston.
Jessica Underwood, JD '14, joined Selendy & Gay, a newly founded law firm in New York City specializing in litigation.
Johnathan Jordan, JD '16, has joined the Real Estate and Litigation Practice Groups of Dallas law firm Kane Russell Coleman Logan. His cases involve breach of contract, fraud, and violations of the DTPA. He also represents clients in medical malpractice, personal injury, and complex insurance coverage.
