Baylor Law #1 on the Bar Exam with a 92.92% Pass Rate

Results of the July 2017 Texas Bar Exam, released Nov. 3, show Baylor Law School with a 92.92 percent pass rate. Texas has 10 law schools, and since 2001, Baylor Law has been No. 1 on 21 of the 33 bar exams given.

"This success demonstrates what a combination of dedicated faculty and staff colleagues, all invested in our mission and our students, can enable our talented students to achieve," said Dean Brad Toben, JD '77. "We aim, among other ends, to prepare our students for success on the bar exam. We also aim higher to prepare them for success in their lives and in their professional careers. We are blessed with the privilege of preparing them to serve their clients, their communities and the profession while keeping faith, family and livelihood in proper priority and perspective,". . . Baylor Law Receives a $60,000 Grant from the Cooper Foundation to Expand Clinical Programs

Baylor Law School plans to expand its clinical programming through its new Trial Advocacy Clinic with a $60,000 grant from the Cooper Foundation of Waco. Under the supervision of the Trial Advocacy Clinic director Josh Borderud, third-year Baylor Law students represent low-income Waco area residents in municipal citation cases. . . Full Story

The Family Awakens: Baylor Law School Hosts 10th Annual McLennan County Adoption Day

Texas Access to Justice Foundation Awards Baylor Law $67,000 Grant for Veterans Clinic

In 2012, Professor Bridget Fuselier founded the Baylor Law Veterans Clinic to serve military veterans and their spouses with their civil legal needs. Now in its fifth year, the Veterans Clinic has provided legal assistance to over 750 veterans in Central Texas. The clinic is a training ground for the Baylor Law students who volunteer at the clinic. Law students working in the clinic acquire hands-on experience in client counseling, estate planning, and litigation. The clinic instills in these students a true passion for pro bono work. . . Baylor Law Hosts The National Judicial College's 2017 Dividing the Waters General Conference

Baylor Law was honored to host The National Judicial College's 2017 Dividing the Waters General Conference on November 1-4, in Waco, Texas. The conference prepares judicial officers for adjudicating and resolving groundwater conflicts. The faculty, comprised of prominent scientists and judges from across the nation, focus on the enduring and emerging conflicts over groundwater in Texas and across the West.

Special thanks Justice Jan Patterson, justice-in-residence at Baylor Law, who was instrumental in bringing the conference to the Law School. . . Full Story

Ike Vanden Eykel, JD '73, managing shareholder and CEO of KoonsFuller in Dallas, was named to the 2018 edition of The Best Lawyers in America for family law. He was named by Texas Super Lawyers as a 2017 Texas Super Lawyer, Top 10 Attorney in Texas for the third year in a row, Top 100 Attorney in Texas, and Top 100 DFW Attorney. He also received the 2017 Alumni Achievement Award from Drake University, his undergraduate institution. Vanden Eykel is the president-elect of the Baylor Law Alumni Association.
Hon. Max Sandlin, JD '78, was inducted into the Rabbit Alumni Hall of Fame by the Atlanta Education Foundation and the Atlanta High School Alumni Association.
Russell R. Barton, JD '91, of Harris, Finley & Bogle, PC in Fort Worth, was named a 2017 Texas Super Lawyer in appellate law.
Jeff Domen, JD '00, of Goranson Bain, PLLC in Plano, was elected president of the Collin County Bar Association. As president, the Association launched and successfully completed Collin County's first-ever Trial Academy. This program gives young lawyers in Collin County an opportunity to learn from judges and seasoned attorneys and provides them the opportunity to perform mock voir dire, opening statements, cross, direct, expert examination, and closing arguments.
Brandon Jones, JD '00, joined Winstead's Taxation, Employee Benefits & Private Business Practice Group as a shareholder in the Fort Worth office. Jones has more than 15 years of experience counseling clients across a variety of industries, including energy, entertainment, health care, hospitality, insurance, retail, and waste recycling.
Kathryn Knotts, JD '02, of the Carlson Law Firm in Bryan, Texas, was named American Business Woman of the Year by the American Business Women's Association, a national program that honors ten outstanding members for achieving excellence in career, education, and community involvement. Knotts manages the firm's Bryan-College Station office, representing personal injury victims.
Dan Moore, JD '08, was recognized as the 2017 Coalition of Residential Excellence (C.O.R.E.) Alumnus of the Year. C.O.R.E. presented Moore with the Catherine Hershey Award on Sept. 6 in Tampa, Florida. He was recognized for his contributions to the Methodist Children's Home, Family Compass of Dallas, Habitat for Humanity, the One Man Dallas project, and the Dallas Volunteer Attorney's Program.
Jamie Oberg, JD '17, joined Peckar & Abramson, P.C. in the firm's Dallas office as an associate. Oberg practices construction law.
