On October 21-22, Baylor Law School hosted the Seventh Annual Baylor Law Alumni Weekend. Events included a special celebration of decades of leadership, a CLE on legal innovation, and Burgers and Blue Bell . . . Full Story
In the tradition of Baylor Law School's unique "Top Gun" competition for the nation's best student trial advocates, Baylor Law School will launch The Closer, a unique transactional law competition on MLK weekend 2017. The Closer is an innovative, invitation-only transactional law tournament where law schools that have consistently excelled at Transactional LawMeets send their top student transactional negotiator to compete.
- Unlike other transactional law competitions, competitors in The Closer face one another individually.
- Participants do not receive the file until they arrive in Waco, a mere 24 hours before the first round of negotiations begin.
- Preparation includes reviewing documents, interviewing the clients, and taking a trip to the actual places related to the transaction.
- The judges for each round are distinguished transactional lawyers.
Baylor Lawyers Serve as Leaders Within the Real Estate, Probate, and Trust Section of the State Bar of Texas
Although Baylor Law School has a well-established history of leadership pertaining to litigation, Baylor Lawyers also make a strong showing in leadership roles in REPTL. Of the eight council seats for the terms starting in 2015 and 2016, three are Baylor Lawyers . . . Full Story

David Dial, JD '83, of Weinberg, Wheeler, Hudgins, Gunn & Dial in Atlanta, was named a 2017 Best Lawyer in America for Construction Law.
Walt Shelton, JD '89 adjunct professor of law at Baylor Law School and solo practitioner in Austin, was named a 2016 Best Lawyer in America in the areas of Environmental Law and Water Law. Shelton has been named a Best Lawyer in America for the past 17 consecutive years.
Christopher B. Trowbridge, JD '98, of Bell Nunnally & Martin LLP was selected to the Communities Foundation of Texas 2016-2017 Advisory Council, joining a distinguished group of 90 business, governmental, community and philanthropic leaders throughout North Texas.
Russell R. Barton, JD '91, of Harris Finley Bogle in Fort Worth was named a 2016 Super Lawyer for Appellate Law.
Michelle May O'Neil, JD '91, of O'Neil Wysocki in Dallas, was named a 2017 Best Lawyer in America.
Greg White, JD '91, Legal Writing Lecturer for Baylor Law School, was named a 2016 Super Lawyer for Appellate Law.
Sara Barry, JD '00, of GableGotwals in Oklahoma City was named a Best Lawyer in America for real estate law.
