Baylor DPS needs to find some creative steps in dealing with the loss of more student parking. The loss of parking usually translates into more parking tickets. As a full-time employee and part-time student I hear both sides of the discussion. I like to have a parking space when I come to work, but I know the student who parks in it is trying to get to class. Put a two-month moratorium on parking tickets, except for handicapped spaces.

Before my fellow employees go ballistic, encourage employee parking at the Ferrell Special Events Center by 'starting the time clock' as soon as the employee parks and waits for the shuttle. Have the shuttle run from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and have security stationed there the whole time. Give out BearBucks to students who park there too. Make it fun to park there. On the main campus, open staff/faculty parking to students before 4:30 p.m. Give substantial parking fee discounts to students who didn't get tickets the previous semester.

Be creative -- after all, we are all a part of Baylor.
