Track teams head to Houston for Indoor Classic

The Baylor track teams return to competition today and Saturday in the Southwest Indoor Classic, hosted by the University of Houston.

In the latest Trackwire top-25 poll, the Baylor men are ranked No. 8 in the nation, while the Lady Bears' squad comes in at No. 20. The men are the highest-ranked team in the Big 12 Conference.

The 2001 Baylor Lady Bear softball program will host a 'Meet the Players' session on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Getterman Stadium. The event is free and open to the public.

In order to give softball fans a look at the team, Baylor will split the team into two squads for a seven-inning scrimmage. Local media, the print media coaching one squad and electronic media coaching the other team, will coach the two teams.

The Lady Bears return eight of last season's nine starters, led by all-American Naomi Fitzgerald.

The senior centerfielder was selected as an all-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for her performance on the field.

The Baylor Badminton club will host a badminton tournament Saturday in Russell Gymnasium. Singles matches begin at 9 a.m., with doubles competition starting at 11 a.m.
