ABS banquet tickets go on sale

The Association of Black Students will host a banquet at 7 p.m. Feb. 9 on the fifth floor of Cashion Academic Center as a part of Black Heritage Week. The guest speaker will be best-selling author Dr. Cornel West, a Harvard University professor of African-American studies. Students can purchase tickets at the Bill Daniel Student Center for $12.

The Guild for Therapeutic Bodywork Inc. will preview its massage therapy training program at 7:30 tonight at the Waco Courtyard by Marriott at 101 Washington Ave.

The Austin-based company will begin classes in Waco in March. Richard Mintz, the owner and president, will demonstrate massage therapy and bodywork techniques, as well as provide an overview of state licensing requirements.

The Taiwanese Student Association will host a Chinese New Year celebration at 6 p.m. Friday at the Zachariah and Elizabeth Bobo Baptist Student Center. TSA members will provide Chinese food and demonstrate cultural customs. Students are selling tickets for $5 at the Bill Daniel Student Center.

Human Resources is accepting nominations from faculty and staff for the selection of Baylor's 2000 Outstanding Staff. Selections are based on support in fulfillment of the university's mission, achievement within the respective job assignment and contribution to the university through service. Faculty and staff can nominate at by Feb. 6. Awards will be presented at the Annual Service Award Ceremony on Feb. 28.
