The Baylor basketball program breathed a collective sigh of relief when senior center Brian Skinner was cleared to play in tonight's exhibition game against Slovakia Select at 7:30 p.m. at the Ferrell Special Events Center.

A specialist in Austin said Skinner suffered from a medial wall blowout fracture, but that the injury would heal in time and would not require surgery. Doctors feared at first Skinner might be out for an extended period of time.

The injury will require Skinner to play in goggles instead of contacts, which he was switching to for this season. The decision on Skinner's availability for tonight's game will rest with Head Coach Harry Miller, who was hesitant to declare he would play the 6-10 center right away. The decision will also hinge on whether Skinner's prescription lenses will be ready by game time.

Jerry Pate, trainer for the men's basketball team, stated that Skinner will under go periodic observation, but that the injury should heal on its own. According to Pate, fractures take about six weeks to heal.
