"Coreopsis has been called the plant with the sunny disposition. The genus name is from Latin and means 'bed bug.' because the seeds are black, have a small hook on one end, and look like small bugs. Another common name is tickseed, for some people thought the seeds looked like ticks rather than bed bugs. Pioneers used seeds from the plant stuffed in pillows and mattresses to help repel insects" [Martin].
