Welcome to the LAC
The Language Acquisition Center serves the students and faculty of the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures. The facility is located on the third floor of the Draper Academic Building, suite 356 and room 355. The Center strives to be a model for technology-assisted language learning. Here, MLC students are encouraged and supported in their language-learning journey while faculty are encouraged and supported in their language acquisition pedagogy.
The LAC specializes in computer-based learning, housing two classrooms with computers, LCD projectors, and other classroom resources to facilitate learning and assessment. Additionally, the LAC provides study space, access to international films and virtual reality equipment, and other media in the world languages taught at Baylor. Finally yet importantly, the LAC is a convenient place to print out documents and charge your personal devices.
The Language Acquisition Center is an international arm of Baylor University. Learning another language can lead to exciting careers and open doors of opportunity around the globe. We gladly share in the responsibility of upholding the Baylor Mission: to educate men and women for worldwide leadership and service by integrating academic excellence and Christian commitment within a caring community.
The Language Acquisition Center staff and student assistants administer computer-adaptive Placement Exams in French, Spanish and German. Some courses require students to take a placement exam prior to enrollment. The exam has a multiple-choice format, and it must be taken in the LAC. There is no charge for the exam, and no appointment is required. Between semesters exams are given by appointment only. In order to take the exam, current Baylor students need to present their Baylor ID card. The exam takes less than a half hour, and students get their results immediately.
