New Media Sequence

The great thing about the New Media sequence is that you don't just learn public relations or news editorial. You learn to use both in addition to marketing and advertising techniques." -Rachel Miller, B.A. '14

As it has become increasingly clear in recent years that the nature and execution of journalism is changing, faculty in the JPRNM department have realized the need for an emphasis within the major.

Thus, the New Media sequence was born in the fall of 2012. As with the other sequences, New Media's foundation is writing, but it focuses more heavily on photography, videography and advertising. Students who choose the New Media sequence must also choose between the photography/videography focus and advertising focus.

Photography and Videography

The photography and videography route within New Media is ideal for students who wish to concentrate on the visual side of journalism. Courses emphasize camera handling, editing and video storytelling.

For the advertising route, Baylor JPRNM has developed a full program of courses to prepare students for a career in advertising. While staying true to the writing-intensive heart of journalism, the advertising path emphasizes copywriting, research, design and media planning.
