Access - Fall 2008

Spotlight_Orr_thumbWelcome to the new, online edition of Access - our vehicle for letting you know about the wonderful things happening in Information Technology and University Libraries. I experienced a very rich and full first year as Vice-President of Information Technology and Dean of Libraries at Baylor University. I enjoyed many opportunities to work with faculty and staff from departments and offices across campus and continue to be amazed at the character and quality of everyone in the Baylor community. In my work with ITS and the Libraries, I am fortunate to work with people who make life easier for faculty, staff and our students by providing incredible services and resources. Both the Libraries and ITS make vital contributions to our campus, and I hope you will find the information in this online edition of Access beneficial.

Be sure to view our upcoming events and mark your calendar. I am personally asking you as Baylor Faculty and Staff to help support our students by attending our annual Ferguson-Clark Author Series. This year, our speaker is John Grogan, author of the book Marley & Me: Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog. Grogan's lecture, titled "Write What is in Your Heart and Success Will Follow," will be at 7 p.m., Tuesday, November 18 at Waco Hall. All of the proceeds from the lecture will used to furnish the new 24-hour study space on the garden level of Moody Library near the newly opened Riley Digitization Center.

General admission tickets are only $5 for both staff and students. However, I am hoping you will consider purchasing our Patron Tickets at $50 in order to help our students have a safe and comfortable environment for those late night study sessions and group projects. For more information about the lecture and tickets, please visit our Web site at

I hope that you have a great fall semester of teaching and research. My office door remains open and I invite you to contact me by email at or by phone at x3200 to simply visit or to respond to any of your questions, concerns or needs.
