Restoring Hope After Hurricane Katrina

Frank Jasek has worked over 10 years in the Preservation Unit in the Libraries. After Katrina battered the Mississippi coast in 2005, he traveled with the Mobile Loaves & Fishes Disaster Relief Team to help provide food, comfort and any assistance needed.

In the rubble of St. Johnís Catholic Church in Lakeshore, Miss., Jasek discovered the churchís pulpit Bible destroyed by mud and water. After months of painstakingly careful work, he expertly restored the Bible and was able to give this community back a piece of their history. Jasekís gift of their beautifully restored Bible became a symbol of hope and courage to the community and an inspiration to his colleagues here at the Baylor Libraries.
