Protecting your personal information is one of the primary concerns of Baylor Information Technology Services. With this in mind, ITS has implemented a new BearID management system that brings increased security, flexibility and convenience to the process of obtaining and maintaining your BearID.

myBearID is used to manage your password. You will use myBearID to set your password for the first time and reset your password when necessary. A new feature of myBearID is an option to use text messaging (SMS) instead of security questions to verify a change to your Bear ID password. If your cell phone is listed in myBearID and you choose to receive a code to change your password, you will receive a text to the phone number on file that you can use to change your password. To make sure your phone number is on file, see the Manage Your Profile instructions.

Note to Faculty/Staff: To minimize impact to you when changing your password, you should have your Baylor-owned computer physically connected to the wired campus network. If you have a laptop and are connected using AirBear or VPN, you can still change your password as described above, but you may be immediately logged out of those connection methods while your new password populates across all IT systems. After a few minutes, you will then be able to use your new password to log into AirBear and VPN.

Additionally: If you opt to change your password while not physically connected to the network, your laptop will continue to use your old password to log into the laptop, and your new password to access emails, BearWeb, etc. until you physically connect back to the network. If you use a Mac, please update your keychain to use your new password. Details on how to do this are on the ITS website.

Prior to your password expiration, go to myBearID: portal (bearid.baylor.edu).

2. My password isn't working. How do I reset my password?
You can reset your password by either of the following methods:

  1. Request an activation code, which is sent to your cell phone via SMS text message. Click here to request an activation code via a text message.
  2. Answer your security questions. Click here and enter your BearID and click "Submit". Then select the option to provide answers to your security questions and click "Next".

3. How do I set my security questions and are they the same ones I used before this new system?
The first time you log into the new system you will be asked to create four new security questions. Under the new system, you may not use the same answer for different security questions.

4. Will I be notified when my password is near its expiration date?
Yes, you will receive the first notification when your password is 30 days from its expiration date. The notification will repeat 21 days, 14 days, 7 days, 3 days, and 1 day from the expiration date. Notifications will cease when your password is reset.

5. What will the password reset notification email look like?
To view the notification message, click here.

6. How can I receive SMS text messages to reset my password?
Your cell phone number needs to be part of your profile. To check, log into myBearID and select the "My Profile" tab. Here, you can add your cell phone and an alternate email address to aid in the password reset process.

7. What if I have forgotten my BearID?
If you do not know your BearID, click here and select "Forgot your User ID?". You will enter identification information on the following page and then you will be given your BearID.

8. How does a new employee or a new student set their initial password?
A new employee/student will receive an email (to an alternate email address) with a username and an authorization code (Contact the Help Desk at 254-710-4357 if you did not receive an authorization code). Enter your username here and click "Submit". Select the first option (answer security question or enter code) and then enter your authorization code.

9. How do I manage the KeyChain on my Mac after changing my password?
If you use an Apple computer, you also need to update the Keychain. To do this:

  • Launch Keychain Access (found in the Utilities folder within the Applications folder)
  • Select the login keychain from the top left of the window
  • From the Edit menu, select "Change Password for keychain login..."
The current password will be your previous Bear_ID password. You will need to set your new Bear_ID password as the new login keychain password. If you do not know your previous password, go to Keychain Access preferences from the taskbar. Click the "Reset My Default Keychain" button and enter your current password. You will need to re-enter any saved passwords such as those for Outlook or the Box website.
