CLEP Exams

The CLEP Subject Examinations measure achievement in specific subject areas. These exams require college-level knowledge and critical thinking ability; sufficient preparation is required to do well. CLEP tests are given at most colleges and universities nationwide. You can view a list of test centers from the CLEP website at

Students should select Baylor as the score recipient when completing the online CLEP registration. The fee for all CLEP exams is $87, which you will pay for and receive a voucher via the CLEP website You must bring a printed copy of this voucher with you when you test. In addition, for tests administered by Baylor, there is an administrative fee of $40 payable by check or cash, which you will pay in our office on the day you test.

Currently enrolled Baylor students must receive a permission slip from the Chair of the course department and if you are a senior, receive a petition to take credit by exam during your last 30 hours. Other Credit by Exam policies are available at

Baylor does not require the optional essay section on any of the CLEP exams.

As of Oct. 17, 2014, the CLEP retest policy was changed to allow test-takers to retest three months after the last exam administration, as opposed to six months. Please note that this policy is in effect only for students who test on Oct. 17, 2014, or after.
