Sandi L. Pruitt is a social and behavioral epidemiologist and Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Her studies leverage large, linked, and multi-sector databases to better elucidate geographic, socioeconomic, and racial disparities in cancer and to monitor the health of vulnerable populations. Her work is designed to guide policies and programs that optimize health for everyone, regardless of their Zip code. For example, the Community Assistance Research initiative (CARE; http://udallas.edu/care/), co-directed by Dr. Pruitt, is currently evaluating how neighborhood-based food pantries optimize health of the food insecure in Dallas County. Her research has been funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, National Cancer Institute, Cancer Prevention Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT), and Feeding America.
