Kelly R. Ylitalo

Dr. Kelly R. Ylitalo's research interests include physical functioning, obesity, and diabetes. Specifically, she is interested in the role of obesity and cardiometabolic health in the development of diabetes and related conditions, and how physical functioning and disability contribute to quality of life and mortality. As an epidemiologist, she uses quantitative statistical methods and large data sets to understand chronic diseases. Since moving to Waco in 2013, Dr. Ylitalo has developed a number of local community-based research partnerships that focus on health-promoting behaviors, such as physical activity and health eating, to understand healthy aging trajectories of individuals throughout the life course.
