BaylorCompass Learning

Access a completed online course
  • Login to BaylorCompass.
  • Click on 'My Performance' at the top of your welcome screen.
  • Click on 'Development Plans' tab inside 'My Performance.'
  • Click on 'Learning Activities' tab.
  • In the list of completed activities, find the online course:
    • Click on the blue play button to launch the course for review.
    • Once the course window opens, choose the 'Review' button:
Launch a currently assigned online course
  • Be sure to turn off the pop-up blocker for the internet browser. For instructions to enable pop-up windows, please visit the ITS page.
  • On the BaylorCompass Home tab in the 'My Tasks list', click the blue play button next to the course task course playbutton to launch the course.
    • Note: clicking the course title in the My Tasks list will not launch the course.
  • Online courses may be accessed multiple times. Once completed, be sure to click on 'Exit' and choose 'Yes.'
  • BaylorCompass will automatically record that you have completed the course.

Register for Learning
  • Click the 'Learning Library' tab at the top of your welcome screen.
  • In the search bar on the left, search by title, description, keyword, etc.; or limit your search using the Advanced Search options (click 'Advanced Search' on the right side of the screen).
  • Hover your mouse over a course ('learning unit') title in the list to view the description; click a learning unit title to learn more and to register.
  • Inside a selected learning unit, click the 'Enroll' button at the top right to register; in the drop-down that opens, choose whether to pick a session time now, or to pick a session later.
  • Inside 'pick a session now,' view details of an available session by clicking on that session in the list.
  • To register for a session, click the 'Enroll' button to the right of your preferred session; then click 'OK' inside the session detail.
  • (When enrolling in a session, learning units with prerequisites will offer a pop-up reminder to take the prerequisite course(s) first).
  • To exit from a learning unit without enrolling, click the 'X' beside the 'Enroll' button.
  • Alternately, you can view learning opportunities via the 'Learning Calendar' - the middle of three view icons at the top-right of the Learning Library screen (above the Advanced Search button). The Learning Calendar allows you to view available sessions of a learning unit prior to enrolling.

Note: Once you enroll in a learning unit, it will appear in your Learning Activities record. While you can withdraw from the learning unit, it will not be deleted from your record.

View Current Learning
  • Click the 'My Performance' tab at the top of your welcome screen.
  • Click the 'Development Plans' tab inside MyPerformance.
  • Click the 'Learning Activities' tab.
  • Click the 'Start Date' column header to sort the list by 'Start Date' and easily find your most recent registrations.
  • To view details of a course (learning unit), hover over or click the title.
  • You can also see past learning units you've completed by looking in this list or in the 'Transcripts' tab list.
  • Past completed learning units uploaded to BaylorCompass from the Training & Development system will not display a start date in the 'Learning Activities' tab; however you can find the completion dates for those learning units in your 'Transcripts' tab.
Switch to a Different Session of the Same Learning Unit
  • Click the 'My Performance' tab at the top of your welcome screen.
  • Click the 'Development Plans' tab inside MyPerformance.
  • Click the 'Learning Activities' tab.
  • Click the 'Enrolled' link in the 'Status' column for the learning unit for which you'd like to switch sessions.
  • Inside the window that opens listing other sessions, click the 'Enroll' button for the session you want.
  • In the pop-up asking if you want to change sessions, click 'OK.'
Withdraw from an Enrollment
  • Click the 'My Performance' tab at the top of your welcome screen.
  • Click the 'Development Plans' tab inside MyPerformance.
  • Click the 'Learning Activities' tab.
  • Click the 'Start Date' column's header to sort the learning activities list by 'Start Date,' to find your most recent registrations.
  • Click the title of the upcoming learning unit from which you wish to withdraw.
  • Inside the learning unit detail, choose 'Withdrawn' from the 'Status' drop-down box, then click 'OK' at the bottom of the window.

Note: Withdrawn learning activities still appear in your Learning Activities record.

Request to Add External Learning:
  • Learning completed through organizations outside of Baylor, such as conferences, trainings, and seminars, may qualify as 'external learning' that can be listed as a credit for you in BaylorCompass. These requests will be routed to your manager for verification and approval.
  • Inside the 'Learning Library,' click 'Add External Learning' at the top-left of the screen.
  • Enter the 'External Learning Title' of your completed learning.
  • Enter the start and end dates of your completed external learning.
  • Enter a 'Description' that will help you and your supervisor remember what your external learning was about, where, how, or from whom it was offered, etc.
  • Enter a 'Purpose' that describes the knowledge or skills you learned or developed during your external learning.
  • Click 'OK' at the bottom of the pop-up window.
  • Your manager must approve your External Learning Request before it is added to your 'Learning Activities.'
Managers, you should:
  • Find and click the 'Approve Learning Requests' link in the My Tasks pane in your 'Home' tab.
  • Click the title of the requested learning under the 'Learning Unit' column to read the details entered by your employee; click the black (not red) 'X' in the upper right corner to exit the description.
  • Click the check-box beside the name of the employee requesting external learning.
  • Click either the 'Approve...' button or the 'Deny...' button at the top right of your screen; if denying the request, a reason or note of explanation should be added.
  • Click 'OK' at the bottom of the pop-up window.
