Ada Margaret Smith Award

NOTE: This award is open to students in grades 6-12.

The Ada Margaret Smith Award is named in memory of a long-time Cameron teacher and historian because of her love for and commitment to students and history. This award is presented to the most promising young historian at HOTRHF. Interested students must submit a completed nomination form and a letter of recommendation from the nominating teacher. One nomination is accepted per school.

Application Procedure
The student should complete the downloadable PDF application. The application allows for responses to be typed into fillable boxes. Signatures of both the student and sponsor are required.

A copy of the application and the letter of recommendation may be emailed to with the subject “Ada Margaret Smith Award Nomination.” Real signatures are required in any digital copy emailed to the HOTRHF office.

The application and letter of recommendation may also be mailed in a single envelope to the Heart of Texas Regional History Fair office at:

Whether by email or mail, the application and recommendation letter must be in the HOTRHF office no later than January 24, 2018.

Applications for the award will be screened by HOTRHF representatives. The top applicants will be invited to an interview during the Regional History Fair at Baylor on Friday, February 16, 2018. The students being interviewed will be notified by noon Thursday, February 15, 2018 of the time and place of the interview.

The award recipient will be announced at the annual Heart of Texas Regional History Fair Awards Ceremony.

Sponsor’s Letter Information

  • Sponsors should select their very best entry for this award.
  • The letter should be no longer than one page in length and should be a narrative background of the student, his or her involvement with the community as well as with other students, and his or her interest in and dedication to history.
