Ada Margaret Smith Award

NOTE: This award is open to students in grades 6-12.

The Ada Margaret Smith Award is named in memory of a long-time Cameron teacher and historian because of her love for and commitment to students and history. This award is presented to the most promising young historian at HOTRHF. Each sponsor is allowed to nominate one student for this award. The student must be registered under the teacher to qualify.

For sponsors to nominate a student, please fill out the online nomination form with the following information by January 31, 2021:

  • Student’s first and last name
  • Sponsor's email address
  • Student’s project division and category
  • Student’s project title
  • Name of school
  • Name of history fair sponsor
  • A brief statement on why this student is a promising historian (1-2 paragraphs)

Nominations for the award will be screened by HOTRHF representatives. The top nominees will be invited to an interview. Student sponsors will be notified by Tuesday, February 2, 2021 if their student was selected for interview. Arrangements for a phone or Zoom interview will be made at this time.

The award recipient will receive a plaque and a prize. The winner will be announced at the annual Heart of Texas Regional History Fair Awards Ceremony.
