Dr. Thomas Kidd
My research examines the religious interactions between the British Protestants, French Jesuits, and Indigenous Peoples of New England and Acadia during the early colonial period in the seventeenth-century Northeast. In particular, I focus not only on the Protestants’ and Jesuits’ differing approaches towards missionizing Indigenous peoples, but how Native communities adapted and synthesized new forms of religious expression and social organization amidst disease and colonization.
In addition to my academic interests, I spend my free time working on creative writing projects, handy projects around the house, and enjoying the outdoors.
