Senior, Great Texts and Pre-Law
"I love that the Great Texts Program has introduced me to a whole new world of exploring literature while growing in my Christian faith. Studying Great Texts has provided me with knowledge beyond the traditional classroom. It has helped me to learn more deeply what it means to live a good, happy, and virtuous life. During my last semester, I compiled a comprehensive list of the texts that I read in the program, and I was pleasantly surprised to discover I had read so many books. Had I not majored in Great Texts, I would not have found the time to read so widely, while studying what I love and preparing for law school."

"During my undergraduate career in the Great Texts program, not only did I find an environment of rigorous philosophical, theological, and literary inquiry centered on the best literature produced by Western tradition. I also sat under the tutelage of caring professors who helped build students up into Christ as we learned to love Him with all of our hearts, souls, and minds. My time in studying the Great Texts not only stoked within me a passion to never stop reading and learning, but also helped set my feet more solidly on the ever so challenging pathway of Christian discipleship."

The study of Great Texts draws you into a community of readers that sparks a conversation in you that ultimately changes your entire world. The conversation grows as old ideas newly discovered stretch your intellect and your heart. By the end of it, you find yourself loving things that four years ago you could only see as labor, and you are equipped and excited to begin a lifetime of learning. I always felt like my major was more about life than books. Nothing could be more practical (or fun for that matter). I can never repay the gift given to me by my Great Texts professors, for I truly do carry the effects of my education with me into every piece of work, every endeavor of love upon which I embark.”

"Beyond direct instruction and even beyond dialogue, students need apprenticeship in the writing practices that are central to any serious intellectual formation. The Great Texts Program provides that distinctive combination of personal encounter and intellectual apprenticeship by considering the most important questions about how we live. This is why Baylor engineering students, for example, study Great Texts. Learning how to think and write well is not a goal that can be detached from the content of what we read. That is why we need to be introduced to the Great Conversation embodied by these texts."
