I have benefited from the investment of many in my formation as a scholar and teacher. For their efforts I remain deeply grateful. Southwest Baptist University cultivated my love of Scripture and prepared me for graduate education. Baylor University’s Department of Religion and the Graduate School have done so much. Among the many great experiences afforded me during graduate school, premier among them was my participation in the Baptist College and University Scholars program. This program has formed me as a scholar, offering me the opportunity to present at numerous conferences and share my research at the Young Scholars in the Baptist Academy Seminar. The program further offered me training as a teacher through access to faculty retreats and mentoring. The Schmeltekopf Fellowship in Educational Leadership affiliated with the BCU program enhanced my preparation for administrative duties and connected me with an excellent mentor. Beyond these events, the program offered me a place to explore Baptist history and theology with my colleagues and provided a way to maintain my connection to the denomination in the academic world. I hope to maintain these ties with the denomination throughout my career in both the context of the church and the academy.
