Bernard Ramm Scholars: Graduate Seminars in Science and Christian Faith

The Ramm Graduate Scholars Program is a cross-disciplinary program for doctoral STEM students and M.Div. students sponsored by the Graduate School and Truett Theological Seminary. It encourages and supports students who are interested in the engagement between Christianity and science.   It runs every other year; the next session will be the 2023-2024 school year.

Named in honor of Bernard Ramm, a key twentieth-century voice in science and religion dialogue and an influential member of Baylor’s religion faculty in the 1950s, the Ramm Scholars Program seeks to encourage intellectually rich discussions about faith and science through a series of dinners and seminars throughout the academic year. Participants will be introduced to a variety of historical and contemporary issues related to Christianity and science and invited to think critically about intellectual and practical questions that arise. The program’s goal is to foster discussion and inquiry between students from diverse disciplines in order to help future science faculty and future ministers develop informed and sympathetic views of the issues.

Program Activities
  • Monthly Discussions: Students gather three to four times during the semester for a Monday evening dinner and discussion of assigned readings. Dinner begins at 6 p.m. with discussion from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

  • Participants are encouraged to attend lectures by Baylor and visiting faculty at various times throughout the year.

  • Resources: Participants are provided books and articles at no cost for use in group discussions.
Qualifications for Entrance into the Program

The program is open to all STEM and M.Div. students who have completed one year of study and are in good standing within their academic programs. Students who are accepted into the program must commit to regular meetings throughout the year.

Applications for the 2023-2024 academic year will be reviewed in late spring 2023.
