Dr. Harold Beaver

Dr. Beaver initially taught at Lamar University (1952-53) and Baylor University (1953-59). He then became a research geologist for Humble Oil & Refining Company (1959-71) in Houston and in Bordeaux, France. During 1965-66 he conducted field work in the Brooks Range of northern Alaska.

In 1971 he joined Esso Exploration as a Senior Exploration Geologist. During this interval he lived in London and was involved in the assessment of various basins in Africa, including Niger, Morocco, Senegal, Mozambique, and Somalia. In 1974 he returned to the U.S. with Esso Exploration as part of a small international group assessing basins in Eastern Europe and the U.S.S.R. He was involved in assessing basins in Southeastern Asia in 1975.

Dr. Beaver returned to Baylor University in 1976 and served as Chairman of the Baylor University Geology Department from 1976 to 1995.

Dr. Beaver's research has been in the areas of invertebrate paleontology and petroleum geology. His early efforts involved research on blastoids, leading to several papers and a major contribution to the blastoid portion of the Treatise on Invertebrate Paleontology. A major portion of his research was on various basins of the world, principally Europe, Africa, North America, and Asia. At Baylor Dr. Beaver supervised numberous theses in basins scattered across the world.
