Dr. Gehlbach was born in Steubenville, OH July 5, 1935. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell, 1957, a Master of Science degree from Cornell in 1959, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Michigan in 1963. He is the author of eighty professional articles and several monographs. He is internationally recognized for his continuing research on the life history strategies of birds and prey especially owls. He is an elected fellow of several professional societies including the Texas Academy of Science and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Dr Gehlbach is married to the former Nancy Young. Their children are Gretchen Gehlbach McElroy of El Paso, a 1986 Baylor graduate, and Mark Gehlbach, San Antonio, a 1989 Baylor graduate.
