2013 Winners

Congratulations to the winners of the Student Literary Contest of the 19th Annual Beall Poetry Festival 2013.

Recognized at a ceremony on April 3, the prize winners were invited to read their work and receive award certificates and cash prizes. The prize winners also were invited to a luncheon with the Festival Poets.

The 2013 contest winners are:

"The Ventriloquist" by Nathan Roberts won The Academy of American Poets Prize and the Virginia Beall Ball Poetry Prize;

"Rothko Chapel Prayer" by Melinda Creech is the winner of The Poetry in The Arts, Inc., Dr. Robert G. Collmer Prize (the three Poetry in the Arts, Inc. prizes are given at the behest of the late Mrs. Peggy Lynch);

"When Eniopeus Died" by Josh Crain is the winner of The Poetry in the Arts, Inc., Dr. James Barcus Prize;

"Torsades de pointes" by Robert Hamilton is the winner of The Poetry in the Arts, Inc., Dr. Jesse T. Airaudi Prize;

"Overdue Interview" by David Smith is the winner of The House of Poetry Prize ;

"Bulbs" by Dustin Morrow (1st Place), "Black Sheep" by Asia Rose Phua (2nd Place), and "Soldiers of Silence" by Daniel Meador (3rd Place), are the winners of the three Dorothy Scarborough Fiction Awards given by the Beall Poetry Festival.
