Frequently Asked Questions
What services does the Writing Center offer?
We offer assistance to anyone who wants a reader for their writing and ideas. We consult with both students and faculty on writing at various stages, and our goal is to help our clients become better readers and reviewers of their own work.
What genres of writing do you offer help with?
We offer help on a variety of types of print-based writing, including essays, research papers, reports, proposals, resumes, conference papers, personal statements, theses, and dissertations, to name a few.
We also offer assistance on digital, visual, and multimodal compositions, including audio and video essays, digital stories, posters, collages, visuals, graphics, brochures, flyers, websites, and so on.
Where is the Writing Center located?
It is located on the ground floor of Carroll Science, room G-06.
What should a client bring to the session?
Please bring what you would like to work on (your essay, an outline, brainstorming notes, etc.), your teacher's assignment sheet, a pen, and an idea of what you would like to work on.
Can I request a specific consultant to assist me?
Yes, you can request a specific consultant in advance by making an appointment online at baylor.mywconline.com, by calling (254) 710-4849, or by stopping by in person.
Do I need to schedule a consulting session in advance?
We recommend that you set up a session in advance, but we also accept walk-ins.
Can I use the computers and printers without an appointment?
Yes, you can use the computer lab any time we are open.
Do I need to be an English major to go to the Writing Center?
No. Students of all majors are welcome.
How often can I make an appointment?
One tutoring session per day, and two tutoring sessions per week.
Do you proofread?
No, but we can teach you how to proofread.
Is the Writing Center open in the summer?
Yes, we are open year-round.
Do you look over personal statements for graduate school applications?
Yes, we will be happy to help with those.
Do you help with résumés?
We, and the Office of Center and Professional Development, will be glad to help you.
