What to do If you have an Emergency

If you call to report an emergency, please provide the following information:

  • Your name
  • Location of the emergency
  • A description of the scene, persons, and vehicles (including license plate numbers) involved.

The Baylor University Police Department is not a part of the McLennan County 911 emergency telephone system. Students and employees calling from a campus phone should always dial 2222. The 911 emergency telephone number should be used only in crisis situations where it is necessary to summon police, fire, ambulance, or other emergency service immediately using an off-campus phone or a pay phone on campus.

It is unlawful to call 911 in non-emergency situations. Callers to 911 should realize that when reporting an emergency, their telephone numbers may be automatically displayed on a viewing screen located at the answering point. This display of the calling number enables emergency personnel to locate the caller quickly if the call is disrupted by the crisis.

Emergency call boxes, marked by a blue light, are strategically placed throughout the campus providing access to the Baylor Police. The Baylor Police Department headquarters is located on the first level of the Speight Plaza Building, 1521 S. 4th.

Medical Emergencies

When injuries or situations requiring medical treatment or an ambulance service occur, individuals should call the Baylor Police Department at (254) 710-2222.

In the event of a fire in a campus building, callers may also notify the Baylor Police Department which has a direct line to the Waco Fire Department. The Waco Fire Department may be reached directly by dialing (254) 750-5440 or, in emergency situations only, by dialing 911 from an off-campus phone or a pay phone on campus.
