The 2014 Diversity Award recipient, Baylor SIA, is a national Latina based sorority founded on September 29, 1990. The application we received, along with letters of support by Dr. Elizabeth D. Palacios, Dean for Student Development and Cristina Luna, National President of Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc. said the following about Baylor SIA, “As a non-profit organization, they are composed of undergraduate, graduate and professional women that strive to increase awareness of the Latino culture, promote sisterhood and leadership, serve as role models and achieve academic excellence. They encourage all women, whether they are in the Hermandad or not, to promote a diverse cultural and social environment. This chapter has excelled over the years and was recently recognized at the national convention as the Most Improved Undergraduate Chapter; chapter member Mayra Maldonado earned Undergraduate of the Year; and their Chapter Advisor, Alma Sanchez, received Young Alumna of the Year".
Baylor SIA’s dedication to improving Baylor and the community along with their love for cultural appreciation and their commitment to increasing cultural knowledge can be seen in so many ways.
It is with great pleasure that the Campus Diversity Committee name Baylor SIA as the 2014 Annual BU Diversity Award recipient!
