Texas Supervision Symposium

Many of us have had the lived experience that good supervisors are constantly learning from and leaning on the support of other supervisors, and yet there is a lack of opportunities to discuss supervision outside our own centers.  The Texas Supervision Symposium aims to meet that need by providing a space for education, networking, and support related to the supervision of trainees within a university counseling center context.

We recognize that time is at a premium and supervisors often have many other roles the counseling center. Because of the scarcity of time and resources, the event will emphasize accessibility in location, scheduling, and registration fees. 

Relationships are crucial to our profession and to the task of supervision, so we have included several intentional times for connecting with others during the Symposium.  There is extended coffee and snacks time before the program starts, lunch during the day, and opportunities to continue the conversation after our workshops.

The symposium is open to anyone involved in supervision or formation of trainees at a university or college counseling center in Texas. This includes all licensed mental health professionals, as well as doctoral interns or other trainees who supervise.  If you made it this far, we assume you share our passion for training and supervising, so here are the details:

Facilities and Accessibility Information:

  • During registration you will have the option to indicate dietary restrictions or preferences.  We review all of the responses we have when selecting meal options with our caterers.  
  • There are multiple microphones that will be used in each conference room.  We will respectfully request that anyone contributing to large-group discussion use the microphones in order to allow everyone to hear clearly.
  • There is a locked, private room in the BRIC that can be used for nursing/pumping upon request.  Let us know ahead of time if you plan on using it so we can arrange for you to have access to the keys.
  • The spaces used for the Symposium are on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the BRIC.  There are both stairs and elevator access to those floors, and there are handicap parking spots directly outside the entrance to the BRIC.

Travel I-35 North to Waco (~90 miles)
Take Exit 335C (Martin Luther King, Jr., McLane Stadium)
Turn right on Martin Luther King, Jr., then left on Orchard Lane (across from stadium).
Continue on Orchard Lane ~ 0.6 mi.
Cross under Texas Hwy 6, turn left onto access road (South Loop).
BRIC is directly ahead on right; enter at facility sign (Research Parkway).

From Dallas:

Travel I-35E South toward Waco.
Merge into I-35 north of Hillsboro (~60 miles).
In Waco, take Exit 335C (Martin Luther King Jr., Lake Brazos Dr.).
Turn left on Martin Luther King, Jr., cross under I-35.
Turn left onto Orchard Lane (across from stadium).
Continue on Orchard Lane ~ 0.6 mi.
Cross under Texas Hwy 6, turn left onto access road (South Loop).
BRIC is directly ahead on right; enter at facility sign (Research Parkway).

From Fort Worth:

Travel I-35W South toward Waco.
Merge into I-35 South approx. 1 mi. north of Hillsboro (~55 miles).
In Waco, take Exit 335C (Martin Luther King Jr., Lake Brazos Dr.).
Turn left on Martin Luther King, Jr., cross under I-35.
Turn left onto Orchard Lane (across from stadium).
Continue on Orchard Lane ~ 0.6 mi.
Cross under Texas Hwy 6, turn left onto access road (South Loop).
BRIC is directly ahead on right; enter at facility sign (Research Parkway).

From Houston:

Navigate to U.S. 290 West and enter Texas 6 near Hempstead (~50 miles).
Travel Texas 6 North toward Waco, through College Station/Bryan (~132 miles).
Texas 6 becomes Business 77 in Waco.
Exit Orchard Lane.
CAUTION: Orchard Lane cross-traffic does not stop.
Cross Orchard Lane.
BRIC is directly ahead on right; enter at facility sign (Research Parkway).
