University Operations Status

Baylor University is providing limited, yet essential on-campus services.

  • Classes continue via online course delivery for the remainder of the spring semester.
  • From March 23 through April 21, the City of Waco and McLennan County, Texas are under a Shelter in Place order.
  • Everyone (including students) living in the Waco area is ordered to shelter at their residence (Baylor residence halls included). There are exceptions for essential services, which are addressed in FAQs on the city website. 
  • Baylor essential services: health, mail, financial, janitorial, maintenance, to-go food services, public safety, residence halls, technology support, scientific research & BU Shuttle.
  • Dallas County, home to Baylor’s Louise Herrington School of Nursing, is operating under a similar Shelter in Place order.

2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Cases

  • Texas Department of State Health Services reports 4,669 confirmed cases in Texas.
  • Waco/McLennan County reports 49 confirmed cases, including five (5) with connections to Baylor.

Online Classes
  • Classes resumed March 23 with online instruction for the remainder of the spring semester.
  • The academic calendar remains unchanged as it relates to finals. Commencement has been postponed.
On-Campus Housing and Dining
  • From March 23 through April 21, 2020, residents of the City of Waco and McLennan County, Texas are under a Shelter in Place order.
  • Residence halls access is restricted to students who registered and were approved to remain in residence halls for the rest of the spring semester. CL&L will communicate move-out dates and procedures for Residence Halls soon.
  • Dining options are limited to grab-and-go at Penland Crossroads and the Penland POD.
  • Central Libraries (Moody Memorial and Jones) are closed to walk-in traffic. Visit Keep Learning to access librarian assistance and resources. Special Collections are closed to visitors but accessible online.
  • Health Services in the McLane SLC is open for students. The Counseling Center is providing support via remote technology as is Spiritual Life and University Chaplain.


University Events and Large Gatherings
  • All University activities, events, conferences and large gatherings are suspended through the end of the spring semester.
  • The Big 12 has canceled all conference and non-conference competitions through the end of the academic year, including spring sports that compete beyond the academic year.
  • All Visit Experiences and campus tours are suspended through the end of the spring semester. For alternative and virtual event options, contact Campus Visits at or 254-710-8687 (TOUR).
  • Public attractions such as the Mayborn Museum Complex, Martin Museum of Art and Armstrong Browning Library are closed to visitors until further notice. The Bill and Eva Williams Bear Habitat is closed temporarily to visitors.
  • International travel for students, faculty and staff has been suspended through the end of the spring semester.
  • Domestic travel has been restricted to essential business purposes only through the end of the spring semester.
  • Study abroad and international mission trips for this summer have been canceled.
