The Wavemaker Problem=0D=0A=

Abstract: Dr. Lenells will discuss the problem of determining the wave profile generated by a periodically moving wavemaker mounted at one end of a laboratory wave tank. Mathematically, the problem can be expressed as a boundary value problem for a nonlinear evolution equation with time-periodic forcing. He will present a new technique for analyzing problems of this type and describe how it can be used to partially answer some questions raised by experiments 35 years ago.=0D=0A=

Bio: After completing his Ph.D. in Mathematics at Lund University in Sweden in 2006, Dr. Lenells served as a visiting assistant professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara and as a Marie Curie Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge, UK. Before joining the Baylor faculty in 2010, he spent one year at the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University in Germany. His research focuses on nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs) and their applications to problems in mathematical physics.
