                                             Salt Words

When it comes to words, we are the maker,

Grinding them into powder so fine;

Pour, pour the words into a glass shaker.

We start our day as a sleepy waker,

Taking words down from our shelves of pine;

When it comes to words, we are the maker.

We take our words and become a breaker,

Grating them into substance like brine;

Pour, pour the words into a glass shaker.

With our glass we become a caretaker,

Tipping grains on people in life’s line;

When it comes to words, we are the maker.

We season and flavor like a baker,

Turning people into food divine;

Pour, pour, pour the words from a glass shaker.

Spill too much and become the forsaker,

Filling open cuts with stinging tine,

When it comes to words, we are the maker.

Carefully pour words from your glass shaker.
